In the midst of a heated debate over pit bulls and other potentially dangerous dogs currently taking place in states across the country, a toddler was mauled by a three-year-old pit bull mix in Maryland just last week. The attack comes as legislators are working towards a compromise on pit bull legislation after the Maryland Court of Appeals last year ruled that pit bulls are “inherently dangerous.” If you have suffered injuries in a dog bite accident in Oklahoma, or if you lost a loved one in such an accident, contact our knowledgeable attorneys at Oklahoma Legal Center today. Toddler Suffers Facial Injuries in Dog Attack

The devastating pit bull attack took place on March 10 inside a home in the 7200 block of Conley Street in Dundalk, Maryland, where a woman put her daughter down on a sofa as they were preparing to leave. “I mean she was just laying there sleeping; the dog jumped up and that was it. I mean just went after her that was it,” said the victim’s uncle, Nathan Bellman. “I turned my back to go grab my jacket; as I took two or three steps, that’s when it happened.” The dog reportedly jumped on the toddler laying on the couch, after which the girl’s uncle pulled the three-year-old pit bull mix off of her. Unfortunately, the dog had already bitten the girl in the face.

Girl’s Dog Bite Injuries “Will Definitely Change Her Life”

“To be honest, I thought it was really life-threatening,” said Bellman. “Because of the intensity of the situation, the blood, and just everything. I mean it was bad.” The dog bite victim was transported to the hospital and she is expected to recover, but her uncle says she will always have scars on her face from the vicious attack. “This will definitely change her life,” he said. According to Bellman, neither he nor anyone in his family has ever mistreated their dogs, but the attack has changed his personal view of pit bulls in particular. “After seeing it myself, I would never own another one,” Bellman remarked. “I would never allow one around my kids or my family ever again.”
