Sex Crimes Against Children in Oklahoma

Wallace Walters, 46, and Bobby Anderson, 26, were arrested on March 22, after the men made lewd and sexual proposals to an undercover task-force officer on Craigslist that the men believed to be a teen boy. The undercover officer was posing on Craigslist as a 15-year-old boy, and both Walters and Anderson agreed to meet him at a local restaurant. When the men arrived at the restaurant and didn’t see the child, they left the area, but both were arrested a short time later. On March 25, the Internet Crimes Against Children task force arrested 40-year-old Johnnie Jones on similar charges, after he also agreed to meet a person he believed was a 15-year-old boy.

OK Officials Cracking Down on Sex Crimes Involving Minors

All three Oklahoma men are facing charges for making lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child and violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act. Under Oklahoma law, sex crimes perpetrated against children are considered serious offenses and are punished accordingly, particularly those committed online. As the Internet becomes more and more accessible for young children, the prevalence of Internet sex crimes is on the rise. In response to this trend, Oklahoma officials have taken a strong stance on sex crimes against children, and have even established task forces to combat such offenses.
