Drunk Driving Arrests in Oklahoma
The sobriety checkpoint began at 10:30 pm on Saturday, April 20, and ended at 3:00 am on Sunday, April 21. It included a checkpoint in the 300 block of North McArthur Boulevard as well as additional patrols in the Oklahoma City area. Five of the seven arrests made during the weekend were for drunk driving and driving without actual physical control, one arrest was for an outstanding warrant, and one was for possession of marijuana, deputies reported. There were also 145 citations issued, with 51 for driving with a suspended or revoked license, 31 for failure to carry insurance, and 30 for failure to wear a seat belt. Officers also issued 42 warnings to Oklahoma drivers during the weekend.
DUI Checkpoint Tweets by OK Sheriff’s Office
As if being charged with drunk driving wasn’t bad enough, the sheriff’s office was also updating its Twitter followers on the success of the checkpoint with live tweets. At about 12:50 am on Sunday morning, one tweet described an arrest made by the deputies running the DUI checkpoint. The tweet included a picture of a man in a brown jacket attempting to walk a straight line during a sobriety test. “Another DUI,” the tweet read. “He could barely stand up straight.” Another tweet involved an arrest made for marijuana possession: “First 4/20 celebration arrest…some weed and paraphernalia,” the tweet read. “Puff, puff…you can’t pass.”
