A Georgia man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) over his mother’s fatal cardiovascular event, which he believes to be associated with her NaturaLyte or GranuFlo dialysis treatment. Waddell Bishop’s complaint was filed on September 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, and seeks compensation from Fresenius USA, Inc. and its subsidiaries for the sudden death of his mother, Frances Carol Bishop. As serious concerns are raised about the safety of FMC’s GranuFlo and NaturaLyte acid concentrates, GranuFlo attorneys across the country are investigating drug injury and wrongful death claims filed on behalf of dialysis patients who were administered the dialysis products during treatment. If you received GranuFlo as part of your dialysis treatment and you have since experienced a serious cardiovascular side effect, contact our skilled GranuFlo attorneys at Oklahoma Legal Center as soon as possible.

FMC Promotes GranuFlo as Superior Dialysis Product

Fresenius Medical Care is the leading provider of dialysis products in the United States and Europe, and the company also operates numerous dialysis clinics of its own across the U.S. FMC’s top dialysis product, GranuFlo, is a dry acid concentrate commonly used as part of the dialysate solution in hemodialysis, a process during which toxic waste is removed from the body of patients whose kidneys are unable to do so because of kidney problems. GranuFlo has become one of the most popular acid concentrates on the market because of its ability to more efficiently convert to bicarbonate, which helps neutralize acid build-up during dialysis. In fact, since the introduction of GranuFlo in 2003, FMC has touted the drug as the “most widely-prescribed dry acid product in the dialysis industry,” supposedly effective because of “GranuFlo’s distinctive proportional component blend in each bag.”

GranuFlo Attorneys for Side Effect Claims

Despite these superiority claims on the part of Fresenius, recent information suggests that GranuFlo may actually convert to bicarbonate at a higher-than-expected level, which could cause hemodialysis metabolic alkalosis, a condition linked to life-threatening side effects like heart attack, cardiac arrest and stroke. According to Bishop’s complaint, Frances Carol Bishop suffered a fatal cardiovascular event on September 16, 2010, after receiving dialysis treatment that allegedly included the use of GranuFlo or NaturaLyte. The lawsuit alleges that the patient’s death was caused by NaturaLyte or GranuFlo side effects, and claims that FMC failed to provide adequate warnings for consumers and doctors about the risk of cardiac arrest associated with its products. If you have experienced a major cardiac side effect that you believe to be linked to GranuFlo, or if you lost a loved one to an alleged GranuFlo side effect, our qualified GranuFlo lawyers at Oklahoma Legal Center can help. Contact our knowledgeable GranuFlo attorneys today and pursue the compensation you deserve.
