The defective drug attorneys at Oklahoma Legal Center are offering free consultations for consumers who have suffered side effects associated with the recent GranuFlo recall issued by the FDA. On June 27, 2012, the FDA issued its second warning to consumers and the medical community about potential GranuFlo side effects, this time subjecting the dialysis product to a Class I recall. Class I is the most severe of all recalls issued by the FDA, and is used only for medications and products that the agency believes may cause “serious adverse health consequences, including death.” In light of this devastating side effect risk, GranuFlo attorneys across the country are investigating side effect and wrongful death claims filed on behalf of individuals who may have been adversely affected by GranuFlo. If you received GranuFlo during dialysis and you have since experienced a serious side effect, contact our GranuFlo attorneys at Oklahoma Legal Center for a free legal claim evaluation.

GranuFlo and Potential Side Effects

GranuFlo is an acid concentrate commonly used as an ingredient in dialysis machines, which function by removing toxic waste from the body of kidney failure patients, since their kidneys aren’t functioning properly. Since it was first introduced by Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) in 2003, GranuFlo has been marketed by the German company as a superior dialysis product, given that it contains both acetic acid (like many other dialysis products) and sodium acetate, which FMC says helps the body convert GranuFlo into bicarbonate faster. Bicarbonate is a natural salt that helps neutralize the build-up of acid that typically occurs during dialysis, helping rid the body of toxins. Unfortunately, recent research suggests that GranuFlo may actually lead to elevated levels of bicarbonate in the blood, which can lead to a pH imbalance called metabolic alkalosis – a major risk factor for cardiac arrest, heart rhythm problems, low blood pressure and other serious side effects.

Defective Drug Attorneys for GranuFlo Side Effect Claims

Fresenius Medical Care is the leading supplier of dialysis services in the United States, and also provides dialysis products to clinics around the world. Back in November 2011, FMC issued an internal memo, warning doctors in FMC-run dialysis clinics that as many as 941 patients had suffered sudden cardiac arrest due to the improper administration of GranuFlo during dialysis. Unfortunately, FMC chose to conceal this information from non-FMC clinics administering the potentially dangerous drug to patients, putting more than 100,000 GranuFlo users at risk of deadly side effects. If you have suffered a serious side effect that you believe to be associated with FMC’s dialysis product, GranuFlo, contact our skilled GranuFlo lawyers at Oklahoma Legal Center today. Our defective drug attorneys have years of experience helping victims of medication side effects protect their legal rights, and can help you pursue the compensation you deserve for your damages.
